Blake says he watched British comedians like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, and Blackadder as a child. He “worshiped” Mick Molloy and Tony Martin as young adults. The book’s author sang with the Australian National Boys Chorus for most of the 1980s.
For his primary and high school education, he attended Glen Waverley South Primary, Caulfield Grammar School, and St Leonard’s College, where he graduated in 1999. Blake took a year off before returning to the University of Melbourne to begin a double degree program in Science and Business.
Since 2003, when they gave their debut performance at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, comedians Hamish Blake and Andy Lee have worked together as the comedy team known as Hamish and Andy. Their stage production is based on a trip they took to North Queensland in Blake’s old car. Soon after, they collaborated with Ryan Shelton and several other school pals to produce a program called Radio Karate for RMITV on community-access television station Channel 31. They trained with SYN Radio and soon obtained a drive-time shift. In February 2004, at the first National Community Television Awards, Radio Karate won the Antenna Award for its outstanding comedy program. A month later, Australia’s Seven Network offered them a national comedy program.
On the Today Network, Blake and Lee started their national drive-time radio program Hamish & Andy in 2006. The program gained popularity quickly; by the end of 2006, it had nearly a million Melbourne listeners, outpacing prominent radio broadcaster Derryn Hinch of 3AW. The Blake and Lee show had the highest rating in four of Australia’s five major capital cities as of August 2008. Beginning in 2009, the program is available in the nation’s capital cities and numerous regional centers.

Rove presented Hamish and Andy’s one-off episode, titled Hamish & Andy Re-Gifted: A Very Early Christmas Special, on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. This was done to recapture everything they had achieved on Rove in 2008. Hamish and Andy have furthermore made multiple appearances on The 7PM Programme and Channel Ten’s Good News Week.
