Hobbit Day 2024: History, Activities, Quotes, Wishes

Why not truly capitalize on Hobbit Day if you know a lot of individuals who enjoy these books? Are you curious to know more about Hobbit Day? then look at it. Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s well-known Middle Earth Cycle books (The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, respectively), celebrate their birthdays on September 22. In these books, Hobbits, who are typically between two and four feet tall and are nothing like your typical hero, perform amazing acts of bravery.

When is Hobbit Day celebrated?

Worldwide celebrations of Hobbit Day take place on September 22. The day is commemorated with activities, much like the birthday celebration mentioned at the start of The Fellowship of the Ring, in honour of these beings and their deeds.
Due to the political officials who support Hobbit Day and the objectives of the American Tolkien Society, the holiday has achieved some degree of legal status in the United States. The Day has also attracted Bipartisan Support from places such as the U.S. County Courthouse, the White House, to the U.S. Capitol.

Hobbit Day History

Hobbit Day, which runs from Sunday through Saturday, is a separate celebration from Tolkien Week and maybe the longest-running day observed by devotees. Due to the variances between the Gregorian and Shire calendars, there is some disagreement over the day that Hobbit Day should be observed.
Tolkien once asserted that the Shire calendar is around 10 days ahead depending on the month. The 14th of September has been suggested as a potential substitute date by ardent supporters. Although J.R.R. Tolkien’s birthday has been observed since 1973, shortly after his passing on September 2 of that year, it was not given formal recognition until 1978 and has gone by a number of titles and designations.

Hobbit Day Activities

The Lord of the Rings movie marathons, going barefoot all day, having seven meals, and throwing parties in honour of the “Long-Awaited Party” at the beginning of the Fellowship of the Ring are just a few ways that fans celebrate. Other activities include feasting, playing games, dressing up, and setting off fireworks.

Of course, watching a movie or reading a book is one of the greatest ways to commemorate Hobbit Day. No matter how many times you’ve seen the movies, they’re still worth a second, third, and fourth viewing!

Additionally, a wide variety of games have been created. Both The Lord of the Rings on the PlayStation and The Lord of the Rings Lego is set to fall under this category. You also have the 2003 video game adaptation of The Hobbit for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube. What a great way to celebrate Hobbit Day!

Why not make the most of Hobbit Day and have a Lord of the Rings or Hobbit-themed party if you know a lot of individuals who enjoy these books? This is a wonderful chance for you to spend time with all of your loved ones and have a lot of fun. Additionally, you may dress like book characters. Everyone will find this interesting.

Hobbit Day Quotes

“There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort…” – Narrator (about hobbits, pg. 4)

“We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things. Make you late for dinner! I can’t think what anybody sees in them.” – Bilbo Baggins (pg. 6)

“And you do know my name, though you don’t remember that I belong to it.” – Gandalf (pg. 6)

“I will go so far as to send you on this adventure. Very amusing for me, very good for you – and profitable too, very likely, if you ever get over it.” – Gandalf (pg. 7)

The dark filled all the room, and the fire died down, and the shadows were lost, and still, they played on. And suddenly the first one then another began to sing as they played, deep-throated singing of the dwarves in the deep places of their ancient homes.” – Narrator (pg. 14)

“As they sang the hobbit felt the love of beautiful things made by hands and by cunning and by magic moving through him, a fierce and a jealous love, the desire of the hearts of dwarves.” – Narrator (pg. 16)

“He wished to go and see the great mountains, and hear the pine-trees and the waterfalls, and explore the caves and wear a sword instead of a walking-stick” – Narrator (pg. 16)

“Then Mr Baggins turned the handle and went in. The Took side had won. He suddenly felt he would go without bed and breakfast to be thought fierce. As for little fellow bobbing on the mat it almost made him really fierce.” – Narrator (pg. 18)
