Philippines is celebrating its 123 years of Independence this year. It is known as ‘Araw ng Kasarinlan’ in the Filippo language which means ‘Day of Freedom’. The Philippines Independence Day is also a national holiday that is celebrated all over the country with a great interest. The Philippines manifest Its Independence on this day of 1898 from Spain. The Philippines was a Spanish colony before that.

12th of June 1898 was the day when the Philippines achieved its independence from Spain. Emilio Aguinaldo was the rebellion leader of the Philippines. After that American troops occupied the Philippines. After almost hundreds of years, Philippines got its freedom from the United States of America on July 4, 1964. President Diosdado Macapagal declared June 12 as the national holiday and Independence Day of the Philippines On May 12, 1962.

Since then every year Philippines celebrate June 12 as their Independence Day. The Philippines was a part of the Spanish colony for more than 300 years. This country was also named under a Spanish king- King Philip the second. The Philippines is an Archipelago country, it has more than 7640 islands altogether. The country’s capital city is Manila.
The flag design was originally generated in 1898 the flag is the same till that day and Filipinos still flying proudly today. Inside the flag, there is a white triangle that stands for equality, while the sun inside represents the eight provinces that took up arms against Spain. The blue stripe inside the flag stands for peace, truth, and justice. While the red stripe for patriotism and valor. The three stars symbolize the three island groups of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
The flag was introduced in 1898, serves as a symbol of the independence of the nation. It was designed by three women who were Marcela Agoncillo, Lorenza Agoncillo, and Delfina Herboza.
