It peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, reaching the top ten in 22 different nations. The 1974 popular song “Lovin’ You” by Minnie Riperton was also covered on the CD, highlighting her three-and-a-half octave vocal range.

After Inner Child, Shanice continued to make albums, including 1994’s 2 Ways to Grow, which she collaborated on with Earth Wind & Fire guitarist Dick Smith and producer Rhett Lawrence, a session musician from Los Angeles.
