Early life and Education

Yo Gotti, 41, was born on May 19, 1981, in Memphis, Tennessee, in the United States. His mother Geraldine Mims was of South African heritage, and his father was a Zimbabwean who had previously worked as a gym instructor. He was raised in a middle-class home.

He was raised in the infamous Ridgecrest apartments in North Memphis’ Fraser district. While both his father and his older brother were hustlers and spent time being investigated in jail, his mother Geraldine was on the street stealing and selling drugs.only take him to prison. 

The young Mario also spent a lot of time with his aunts, who were also out on the streets. He hustled like his family and eventually made it into the rap game, which was fortunate for him.

Career

Yo Gotti started releasing records under his new identity between 2000 and 2006. The albums were “Back 2 da Basics,” “Self-Explanatory,” “Da Rap Game,” “From Da Dope Game 2,” and “Da Rap Game.” Then, in 2012, he released his sixth album, “Live From The Kitchen,” following a signing with the major label RCA. “5 Star,” the album’s lead song, reached its highest point of 79 on the Hot 100 and 11 on the US Rap charts. In its first week of release, the album itself sold 16,000 copies and debuted at number 12 on the US Billboard 200.

Gotti departed the label after becoming dissatisfied with RCA over the album’s poor sales. He issued a mixtape titled “Cocaine Muzik 7: The World Is Yours” at the end of 2012. Yo Gotti stated his seventh studio album, titled “I Am,” will be released in November of that year after beginning a new distribution agreement with Epic Records at the beginning of the year. Young Jeezy and YG both contributed performances to the album’s lead track, “Act Right.” The song debuted on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles list at position five. Wednesday, November 19, 2013, “I Am.” Yo Gotti finally received a nomination for Album of the Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards thanks to the album’s favorable reviews.

The Art of Hustle, Gotti’s eighth studio album, was released in February 2016. The lead single, “Down in the DM,” peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200. Yo Gotti made the announcement that he had inked a contract with Jay Z and his major label Roc Nation at the end of 2016.
