When is National Read a Book Day

To appreciate all the book lovers out there, people celebrate 6 September as National Read a Book Day. National Read a Book Day aims to encourage people to adopt the habit of reading books.

National Read a Book Day History

While the US is thought to be the country where National Read a Book Day first appeared, nothing is known about the day’s earlier existence. What is evident, though, is Americans’ enthusiasm for literature! And since 81% of us believe we don’t read as much as we would want, many people are happy to see this day. Therefore, today is the ideal day to set aside some time to read everything on our “to read” list.

The success of book clubs is evidence of our enduring passion for reading. Women’s Bible studies go all the way back to the 1600s. However, reading has become considerably more sociable in recent years, thanks in large part to Oprah Winfrey’s Book Club. Oprah’s Book Club, which began in 1996, has been credited with encouraging millions of people to read books by recommending 70 titles that have generated over $55 million in sales.

In the past 12 months, more than 74% of Americans have read at least one book. Undoubtedly, the hustle of life interferes with our efforts to read because there are so many other things vying for our attention. Fortunately, reading on the go is now much simpler thanks to technological platforms. Nowadays, around 20% of books are read on electronic platforms. Grab the book at the top of your stack, download it, and start reading, in whatever format you want!

National Read a Book Day Activities

Naturally, that’s the main objective of the day, but taking part in a reading challenge can make reading more enjoyable. You can find dozens of checklists and suggestions for choosing books that will challenge your imagination as well as books that you won’t be able to put down if you search for “reading challenge” images on Google. Read a book while you unwind and rest. Celebrate with your favourite books, whether you like to dive into the realm of fiction or learn something new.

You probably have a nearby public library that is always in need of volunteers. Libraries do a lot of valuable work for their communities by providing a calm, safe environment for kids to learn. Libraries frequently serve as polling booths during elections and host community meetings. Donating books to your local library is a terrific way to share knowledge with your community and book contributions typically help libraries fill out their shelves.

Share with someone your love of reading. In order, read to your kids to share your passion for literature with them. You can offer to read to an elderly adult who is unable to read on your own. Storytelling to them enhances brain function as well. Use the hashtag #ReadABookDay to post on social media about the books you’re reading.
