The Indonesian Independence Day is observed by parades, performing arts and cultural shows, sports competitions, and community gatherings. There is also a political celebration at the Presidential Palace where the Declaration of Independence is going to be read out at 10:00 a.m. Therefore the national flag is going to be hoisted in a respectful manner. In some regions, people raise the flag on the highest peak of a mountain to show their love and respect for their country. Others try to dive underwater and pitch the flag under the ocean.  A traditional game which is one of the best activities during this day, where players have to try eating Indonesian crackers or “krupuk” and climbing a tree to achieve the prize. There are also other games hosted by local communities featuring the traditions of Indonesia. Moreover, some people prefer to spend the day doing charitable works, like donating blood, joining medical missions, or visiting orphanages. Generally, Indonesian Independence Day may be a celebration of joy, patriotism, and unity within the country.
