In 1949, Jack Klugman made his acting debut in the play “Stevedore” at the Equity Liberty Theatre in New York. Soon after, he entered the world of television and film. He made his Broadway debut in 1952 alongside John Garfield and Lee J. Cobb in Clifford Odets’ “Golden Boy.” Two years later, he made an appearance in the soap opera “The Greatest Gift,” and in 1955, he had a role in the television anthology series “Producers’ Showcase.” He was cast in the Reginald Rose teleplay “12 Angry Men,” which Sidney Lumet transformed into a 1957 courtroom drama. He spent a whole year on Broadway in the 1962 production of “Tchin-Tchin.” He appeared twice in “The Untouchables” episodes “Loophole” and “An Eye for an Eye” between 1960 and 1963. Jack Klugman received his big break when Oscar Madison was chosen to play the lead character in “The Odd Couple” on Broadway in 1965. He also had a recurring role in the identical 1970 ABC television series. He stayed on the cast for five years. In 1973, Klugman and Randall cut “The Odd Couple Sings” for London Records.

Jack Klugman married the actress Brett Somers in 1953. Adam and David were the names of the couple’s two children. They drifted apart later. Despite claims to the contrary, records show that the couple separated in August 1977. 2007 saw Somers’ passing.
